 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Cormack held on Thursday, June 14, 2007 in the Council Office, Cormack.

Resolution to adopt the Minutes of the May 10 , 2007 Regular Meeting and the May 15, 2007        Regular Meeting as presented.  4 for, 0 opposed, carried. (Councillor Pelley had not yet arrived).

DELEGATIONS

 

1.  Mr. Joseph Hayes - Development Proposal

 

Council advised Mr. Hayes that he and the interested party should prepare a development plan along with an application to subdivide for commercial purposes.  Mr. Hayes left at 8:00 pm.

 

2.  Presentation  - Office of  Rural Secretariat, Rocky Harbour - Corner Brook

 

Mrs. Doris Hancock and Mr. Fred Kirby were in attendance to inform Council on the mandate of the Secretariat for the area of Corner Brook to Rocky Harbour.  The presentation led to councillors expressing many concerns with agricultural policies and practices of the provincial government.  Ms. Hancock felt that there are some very positive indicators for the future of rural Newfoundland and Labrador.  She will send the town a copy of the Secretariat’s Vision

Statement.

Administration

1.         The Humber Valley Regional Planning Authority - Cormack’s Share of Set Up Cost

Resolved that the Town of Cormack pay its share, as indicated in the Minister’s correspondence, of the cost to set up a Regional Planning Authority for the Humber Valley Region.  5 for, 0 opposed, carried.

 

2.         The City of Corner Brook and Regional Summer Games


 

The importance of youth participation in sporting activities cannot be underestimated and since provincial and regional sporting events present opportunities to our community’s youth, the town will give its support to the City of Corner Brook in its application to host upcoming Regional Summer Games and the 2008 Summer Games.

Given the importance of maintaining proper records retention and disposal schedules the Town of Cormack hereby adopts the Records Retention Policy as presented and numbered  007-064.

3.  Petition Presented to Council

A petition from residents was tabled regarding the sawmill operation at Willow Avenue.  Council discussion on the matter concluded that there is a need to meet with the owner of the sawmill in an attempt to settle some or all of the issues noted as quickly as possible.  The hours of operation was of particular concern due to the constant noise of the equipment during overnight hours.  The office will try to set up a meeting with the owner.  In the meantime, information will be sought on the enactment of noise regulations.

 

Permits and Inspections

 

Gord Matchum - requesting permission to remove cut wood left along by-road during last cutting project under power lines.  Council gave an ok to take away only wood left behind along Balsam Avenue.  No permission given to cut.

 

ARDAHC

Discussion on the colour selected for the exterior clapboard changed.  Councillors agreed upon ‘sunshine’.

Mike Kelly will be doing the paint work in the centre at a rate of $18.00/hr.

Due to the lateness of the hour, it was decided to adjourn at this time and to meet again on the following Wednesday to conclude the considerable business remaining.
