Minutes of Regular Meeting of the Town Council of Cormack
held on Monday, April 16, 2007 to complete the agenda set for the April 12,
2007 Regular Meeting.

Called to Order by the Mayor at 8:20 pm.
ARDAHC
1. JCP Applications
Considered
It was agreed that the first item of business would be to
review the JCP applications. The
decision of Council was that all of the applicants were suitable for placement
on the project and would be notified of this as soon as possible. Anticipated start date is April 23rd.
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
1. Accounts Payable
Resolution 007-040 Rideout/Alexander
Resolved that the accounts
presented for payment be paid totaling $18251.81.
Resolution 007-041 Pelley/Alexander
The Town will contribute $130.40 a
year for three years toward the mortgage on NLFM’s office building. 5 for, 0 opposed, 0 abstained, carried.
A Kodak 10Xzoom digital camera has been purchased to
document the progress on the centre’s renovations and extension.
$25,796.32 (years 1 & 2) of the Local Governement Gas
Tax rebate has been deposited into a GIC.
$61,621.42 ($60,000 of which is the Town’s
s)has been deposited into a GIC.
Public Works
Work will go ahead on the sections of Tamarack Drive when
conditions permit and the equipment is available. The town will continue with what was to have been done last fall
and we’ll also do this year’s upgrading at the same time.
Subdivision and Development

Quarry Permit
Correspondence from Municipal Construction in which a
request is made to operate from the Town’s quarry lease off Viking Trail. Council is prepared to agree to the request
since it has an existing agreement with Humber Valley Paving.
2. Sale of Lot at
Poplar Crescent
Resolution 007-042 Pelley/Chaffey
An interested party has inquired into the possible purchase
of piece of land at Poplar Crescent and since the Town is interested in seeing
development in the area it is duly resolved that a price be set at $8000 for
the lot in question with a condition noted that the buyer must install a
drilled well on site. 5 for, 0 opposed,
0 abstained, carried.
Recreation
The Town has received a request from the Cormack 50+ Club
for assistance in adding an extension to the building. It is noted that the labour would be
voluntary.
CORRESPONDENCE
Anderson and Yates Forest Consultants - Tree inventory and
care consultants.
SWASP - Summer Student Program application forms.
Communities in Bloom and various flyers and information
sheets and magazines which might be of interest to councillors.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Humber Valley Paving - provided a copy of the statutory
return for pits and quarries which they have forwarded to Mineral Lands
Division.
Aliant - the Town received a verbal response to its inquiry
about the poor signal received in some areas of the community. Due to the need for basic services in other
areas (which now includes Ontario) we are not likely to see upgrading which
would be quite costly, according to the Regional Manager, Mr. Vic Simmons.
NEW BUSINESS
It was decided that the C.L. Sheppard Memorial Award should
be reinstated for this fall’s nomination date.
It will need to be modified in the meantime.
The NLFM will hold its annual Municipal Symposium in Gander
from May 11 - 12. Noone able to commit
at this time.
An introductory letter from the Western Regional Wellness
Coalition.
Deer Lake Tourism Development Corp. - a survey request
regarding the town’s development interests in and around Deer Lake. Council felt it could not be of any help in
this matter which specifically addresses Deer Lake.
Municipal Awareness Day is May 16th.

As part of Municipal Awareness
Week the Town will sponsor a Poster Contest consisting of three age groupings
with a $25 prize and a Town lapel pin to the winner of each group.
