DELEGATIONS
1. Ms. Trudy Read, Health and Community Services
Ms. Trudy Read arrived at 7:50 pm. Ms. Read is preparing a report on
primary health care within our region. She recorded council’s comments
both positive and negative concerning health care. Council concerns
included:
‒ waiting time
‒ access to physicians after regular office hours
‒ long distance travel for health care (ie to St. John’s), especially
for cancer treatments and surgery.
Ms. Read left at 8:45 pm.
2. RCMP Constable Mark Blackmore
Constable Mark Blackmore talked with council concerning a number of
issues:
‒ speeding through the community continues to be a major concern
‒ snowmobiling
‒ patrolling the community and around the community centre during dances
and events
‒ vehicles interfering with snowclearing.
The detachment has a full contingent of 13 officers in Deer Lake. Before
leaving Constable Blackmore assured council that he is eager to work
with the community to deal with the issues discussed.
Fire Department
The department asked for council’s sanction of money prizes as
incentives for the ski doo run.
Council will sanction a prize of 15% to each and every participant based
on the individual’s total funds raised. All funds raised (less the 15%)
should go to the department toward acquisition of equipment.
Councillor Rideout left at 10:00 pm.
Jodie Rice will be permitted to use the community centre on Sunday,
January 15th to host a benefit event for Wanda Randell.
Resolution 01-002 Pinksen/Alexander
