Spring Clean Up

Did you know that between 1990 and 2007 over 1.6 million children & youth visited emergency departments across Canada for treatment of injuries? In recent years, almost  half of these injuries involved consumer products (e.g. furniture, window coverings, toys). Getting unsafe products out of circulation is an effective way to reduce these types of injuries. Even when products are regulated or banned, many continue to be used, passed along or sold second-hand.

Safe Kids Canada recommends that the following products be disposed of:

  • Baby walkers with wheels
  • Baby bath seats
  • Old cribs and recalled cribs
  • Recalled playpens
  • Baby gates (accordion style – v shaped openings or any that have been recalled)
  • Car seats (damaged or involved in a crash, past manufacturers “expiry” date or have been recalled)
  • Bike helmets more than 5 years old
  • Trampolines

For a complete list of recalled products in Canada go to: www.healthcanada.gc.ca/cps-recalls

When placing items for garbage collection, take steps to ensure that the product will not be picked up for use with another child. Destroy or remove working parts, nuts or bolts, and cut harness straps in car seats. By safely disposing of children’s products you can help to ensure children are safer in our community.

Water Analysis

In the past we have had inquiries from residents about water quality. In response to this, Council has asked for and received a supply of water-analysis bottles and instructions from the Government Services Division. These have been obtained for the convenience of our residents and are now available for pick up at the Cormack Town Council office.

Vehicle Wreck Removal

There are still many vehicle wrecks remaining scattered throughout the town. There is absolutely zero tolerance with regard to vehicle wrecks, scrapped metal and household appliances dumped on private property. A re-inspection of all properties will be carried out by the town. Any wrecks found upon re-inspection will be recorded, and  a letter sent out notifying the owner that the property has to be cleaned up within 30 days. If after this time period, the owner has not complied, the Department of Environment will be notified. The Department of Environment will follow up with removal orders under provincial regulations.

Cormack Heritage Project

We are looking for community support, volunteers and donations/ loans of historical items for our heritage project. One part of this project will involve developing a  community museum in order to showcase heritage objects, documents, photos, etc. We also will be developing a heritage house and small barn and vegetable garden, to promote Agri-tourism, youth projects, and community history. Call 635-7377 or 635-7025 for more information on the progress of this project, or for information on becoming involved in its development.

Agricultural Resource & Development Centre Initiative

A resource centre is under development that will, in future, provide an access point to those looking for information on the agricultural sector, and potentially building an agri-business within Cormack. We are actively seeking input as to what would make the Agricultural Resource & Development Centre most useful to members of our community -- please feel free to submit your comments. Call 635-7377 or 635-7025 for more information on the progress of this project, or for information on becoming involved in its development.
